What changes when
the room gets big
Kahoot is a good product and this page will not pretend otherwise. Most people looking for an alternative are not unhappy with the game. They hit a wall somewhere else: the number of people in the room, or what it costs to run something four times a year.
Here is where those walls actually are, with prices read off each vendor's own page, and where we fit.
If you are looking for a free Kahoot alternative
About a third of the people searching for a Kahoot alternative are searching for a free one. Straight answer: we are not free. If your room is small and you run a quiz now and then, a free plan is the right choice and you should take it.
What matters is where free stops, because that is what sends people looking in the first place:
| Tool | Free plan | Players per session | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kahoot! | Kahoot! Go | 10 | Ten is a team meeting, not an event |
| Wooclap | Starter | 1,000 | Five questions a month, so not a real quiz |
| Wayground (ex-Quizizz) | Starter | 100 | — |
| Mentimeter | Free | 50 | 50 per month, so one event uses it all |
| AhaSlides | Free | 50 | Plus a cap of five quiz and three poll questions |
| Crowdpurr | Basic | 20 | Limit is per Experience |
Read off each vendor's own pricing page on 19 August 2026. Prices in this market move often; check before you rely on them.
Worth saying plainly, because a comparison where every rival looks bad is not worth reading: Wooclap's free plan lets in a thousand people, far more than anyone else here. What makes it unusable for a quiz is the five questions a month, not the room size.
What it costs to get past the wall
Say you need a thousand people in one session. This is the cheapest plan at each vendor that allows it:
| Tool | Cheapest plan for 1,000 in one session | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| EventQuiz | Event Pass | $39 once, 72 hours of live time |
| Kahoot! 360 | Pro Plus | $39 per month, $468 a year |
| Crowdpurr | Conference | $249.99 a month, or $1,499 billed yearly |
| Mentimeter | Basic | $11.99 per presenter per month, billed yearly |
We are not the only one-time option. Kahoot sells Event Ultra, a one-time purchase for up to 5,000 participants. Its price is not published, so you have to contact them for it. We are the only one here with a one-time price you can read without talking to anybody.
The real difference is not the number, it is the shape of the bill. A monthly plan makes sense if you run something every week. If you run four events a year, you are paying for twelve months to use it on four days, and that arithmetic is what sends people to a page like this one.
How ours works
You pay when you host. $39 buys 72 hours of live time, counted from your first live session and not from when you buy it. Inside that window there is no limit on sessions, so a morning workshop and an afternoon one both fit on one pass. $299 buys a year of unlimited events. Neither renews on its own.
When the window closes, your quizzes and your results stay in your account. Only starting a new live session needs a new pass.
Measured, not claimed
We ran 1,000 simultaneous players through 20 questions against the live product: no dropped answers, questions reaching phones in about 130 ms at the 95th percentile, and the full archive written in 21 seconds. The raw results, with the method and the date, are kept as files rather than as a sentence in an advert.
We do not publish a hard player cap, because we have never had to enforce one. 1,000 is how far we have measured, not a wall, and nobody gets locked out of a running event.
Five modes
- Quiz — points, streaks and a leaderboard.
- Survivor — a wrong answer costs a life, and the big screen counts down the players still standing until one is left.
- Survey — no points and no right answers, anonymous, with the bars filling in live as people vote.
- Lucky draw — no questions; the big screen spins the nicknames in the room and stops on a winner.
- Q&A — people send questions from their phones and vote on them, and you pick which one goes on the big screen.
All five are included in both plans and you pick one when you build the quiz. Questions can be written by hand or generated from one of eight topics, ten at a time, every word editable.
No app and no accounts: what players do
Open the site, type a PIN and a nickname, and they are in. No app to install, no account to create, and a nickname is all we ask for by default.
Where we are the wrong answer
This section exists because you will find out anyway, and it is cheaper for both of us if you find out now.
- You teach a class every week. Kahoot was built for that and has a decade of school content behind it. We were not and do not.
- You want a full audience response system. We have no word clouds. If that is what you came for, Slido and Mentimeter do them and we do not.
- You want a free plan. We do not have one. There is a refund with no questions asked, which is a different promise.
- You need a public library of ready-made quizzes. Ours generates questions on eight general topics; it does not hold a catalogue of millions.
If you want to try it
The prices are on the pricing section and you can buy in one click. If you would rather see it work first, start a free trial: 24 hours from your first live session, up to 10 players per game, no card.
Built and used by someone who runs training events for a living, which is why the pricing looks the way it does.
